We grind and sharpen knives which are primarily used by the printing presses. The printing presses send their knives to us every few days to sharpen. This is a repetitive job on the part of printers and for us this gives us steady work to grind and sharpen the shearing knives. The knives are usually between 36 inches to 54 inches. There are instances of knives to be as long as 60 inches or on the smaller side just about 32 inches but they are the exception rather than the norm.
Recently, we are grinding knives used by the Tea Industry to clip their tea bushes. These knives are sharpened for the original equipment manufacturers who supply these knives to Tea Gardens in Darjeeling, Dooars and Assam.
We take extreme care while grinding and sharpening the knives and can change the angle of the edge so that it is tailor-made to the requirement of the printer. Printers use these knives to cut paper and paper boards. The angles are different for various types of paper and paper boards. The operation is smooth and the cut is fine if the angle is correct taking into account the thickness of the item (paper, cardboard, paper boards, etc.) to be sheared. Proper measures are taken while grinding and our clients are assured that if they do the grinding at our end their knives will not be damaged during the grinding process. We do the grinding where high speed motors are used with six grinding stones giving a smooth finish to the shearing knives.
